Saab . How to Replace a Fuel Filter in a 2002 TrailblazerReplacing the fuel filter in your Chevy Trailblazer is required every 30,000 miles or 30 months, according to the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. The fuel filter for the 2002 model is contained within a bracket and mounted on the fuel tank. Difficulty:Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Wrench Floor jack Axle stands Compressed air Rags Needle-nose pliers Phillips screwdriver Replacement filterRemoval Step by Step : 1 Depressurize the fuel system, which involves the following: Open the filler cap, locate and remove the fuel-pump fuse from the fuse block (located in the left rear corner of the engine compartment --- a diagram under the cover will guide you to the proper fuse), start and run the engine until it stalls and then crank the engine for another five seconds. 2 Disconnect the vehicle's negative battery cable using an insulated wrench on the cable clamp nut. 3 Raise the truck's rear end with the floor jack and lower the axles onto jack stands. 4 Clean off all dirt and other debris around the fuel line fittings at the filter using compressed air or a carburetor cleaner. 5 Disconnect the fuel lines from the filter by squeezing the clips at the quick-connect fittings. The fuel filter is mounted on the side of the tank and easily accessible, but you may need needle-nose pliers to generate enough pressure on the fittings. 6 Unscrew and disconnect the filter's bracket from the fuel tank using a screwdriver. If the vehicle has a shield for the tank (common on four-wheel-drive models), there should be a small hole in the shield from which you can access this screw. Installation Step by Step : 1 Obtain the proper replacement filter and mount it on the fuel tank and screw the bracket in place with its screw and your screwdriver. 2 Connect the fuel lines to the filter using their quick-connect fittings. 3 Reconnect the negative battery cable and insert the fuel pump fuse. To help repressurize the fuel system, turn the ignition key to the "on" position for about two to five seconds and then switch it off for 10 seconds. Repeat this a few times. Tips & Warnings Wrap clean rags around the fittings as you disconnect them to help catch any fuel that might spill out. When changing the fuel filter, remember that the fuel system is under high pressure; use caution and watch for fuel that may spill during the removal process.
Saab . How to Replace the Fuel Filter of a '95 LeSabreYour 1995 Buick LeSabre comes equipped with an in-line fuel filter near the fuel tank that keeps foreign particles in gasoline from reaching sensitive components in your engine. Over time, these particles will clog the filter and have a negative impact on engine power. You can restore the needed rate of fuel flow to your standard LeSabre 3800 V6 engine by installing a new fuel filter. The job requires just a few tools that you might already have in your tool box. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Wrench Shop rags Small screwdriver Floor jack Jack stand Goggles Back-up wrench Flare wrench Ratchet Ratchet extension SocketRemoving the Fuel Filter Step by Step : 1 Open the hood and disconnect the battery negative terminal using a wrench. This cable is usually black and is connected to the battery post with the minus (-) sign next to it. 2 Loosen the fuel filler cap. 3 Look for the fuel supply manifold on the top area of your engine. The manifold is where the fuel injectors connect. Then look for the fuel pressure test port, a small valve on the manifold that resembles the air valve on your LeSabre tires. 4 Wrap a shop rag around the pressure valve and depress the small stem inside the valve with a small screwdriver. Use the rag to catch the spray of fuel when you depress the valve. Depressing the valve will relieve the fuel system pressure. 5 Raise the rear, passenger side tire and wheel assembly using a floor jack. Place a jack stand under the frame and lower the vehicle. 6 Locate the fuel filter. The fuel filter is in front of the rear, passenger side tire, mounted on the frame rail. Wear goggles when working with the fuel filter. 7 Wrap a shop rag around the fitting of the fuel line coming from the gas tank and leading to the filter. Twist the fitting 1/4-turn in each direction to release any dirt that may have lodged between the filter nipple and the line fitting. 8 Grab the fuel filter with one hand and with the other hand press on the two fitting tabs as you pull the line fitting from the filter to disconnect it. Use the shop rag to absorb any residual fuel that may come out of the line once it is disconnected. 9 Hold the filter nut on top of the fuel filter with a back-up wrench. Use a flare wrench to unscrew the fuel line retaining nut, which is connected to the top filter nut. Use the shop rag to absorb any residual fuel that may come out of the line. Step by Step : 10 Loosen the filter bracket attaching bolt using a ratchet, ratchet extension and socket. Slide the filter out of the bracket. Installing the Fuel Filter Step by Step : 1 Slide the new fuel filter in the bracket with the top filter nut pointing to the front of your LeSabre. 2 Tighten the fuel bracket to finger-tightness. 3 Start the front fuel line retaining nut on the filter by hand. This will help you avoid cross threading the fitting. Then hold the top filter nut with the back-up wrench and tighten the fuel line retaining nut with the flare wrench. 4 Grab the fuel filter with one hand and with the other hand push the fitting from the line coming from the fuel tank against the nipple on the bottom of the filter. Pull the line fitting slightly to make sure the fitting has locked in place. 5 Tighten the fuel filter bracket attaching bolt, again using the ratchet, ratchet extension and socket. 6 Lower your vehicle using the floor jack. 7 Tighten the fuel filler cap. 8 Re-connect the battery negative terminal using the wrench. 9 Turn the ignition key to the On position to pressurize the fuel system. Check for leaks at the fuel filter, then turn the key off. *4. Use a clean, lint-free rag to wipe around the breaker plate where the condenser was resting. Then take the new condenser and slide it in where the old one was. If there's a new clip in the tune-up kit but you were able to slide your old condenser out without removing the old clip, forget the new clip as long as the old one seems to be in good condition and doesn't wiggle around. Congratulations! You just replaced your condenser. On to the points! Remove and replace the points The points on your vehicle may look a bit different from the ones in Figure 12-28, but they work the same way. Here's a rundown of some basic types of points that you may encounter: J«* Some points are made in a single unit; others consist of two halves that fit together. Some Chrysler products have dual sets of points, but these are no more difficult to install or change. v* Some foreign cars have little springs that come out separately from the points. If you have points like these, be sure to hold your free hand over the distributor when you loosen the points, or it will spring out and get lost. v* Some points have two screws that fit into slots in the points — these can be loosened, and the points will slide out. Others have a screw to hold the points down and another screw to adjust them. Part'": Keeping Your Car in Good Condition, System by System 544

Before you remove your old set of points, compare them to the new set of points you just bought. If they don't look exactly alike, return them for the proper kind. Once you know which kind of points you have, do the following: 1. Take your screwdriver and open up the points in your distributor so that you can see between them. Are the contacts rough where they meet? This is usually the result of normal wear and tear. If they're badly burned or pitted, the points should be replaced. If the points are relatively new, excessive wear can be a sign that something is improperly adjusted or malfunctioning. Excessively worn points or burned points usually result from either poor adjustment when they were installed (this means that they were incorrectly gapped) or a bad condenser, or the accidental introduction of oil or cam lubricant between the point contacts. Because used points are impossible to read accurately with a feeler gauge (Figure 12-29 shows you why), you won't be able to tell if this is a case of poor adjustment. But if your olds points look badly burned or worn, be sure to check your new points after about 1,000 miles of driving, and if these look bad, too, ask your mechanic for an opinion.
